Areas/Zones in World of Warcraft can get a bit complicated. Inside each of the four continents that you can play in (Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Northrend and Outland,) there are also sections of the continents, and these continents can be divided into even smaller sections, called zones.
Add to that the fact that land is not the only thing you can walk in on a zone! The Great Sea has a region called the "Sunken City of Vashj'ir that has an underwater zone - you walk on the seafloor!
These things are brought to light when some people get bored just trying to level their paladin and start searching around in the zones. WoW provides maps that help you go exploring into their WoW Secret Zones. Don't count on them too much though. Some players have been swimming the borders of Azeroth's continents when the map says they should be on solid land. And then there are some islands and spaces of land that are not even located on the maps. There are so many variances between land and sea that I'm surprised they even provide the maps!
One secret that I know of, which may or may not be a real WoW secret zone, is that you can queue up for WSG in northern barrens near the path to Ashervale. I know a lot of people have found out about this, but if you haven't been, go check it out. It's worth it.
You'll miss out on half the fun of those WoW Secret Zones if you don't get the new rocket boots. With these boots, you can slow fall off a big cliff! This is awesome when you find the intersection between 3 zones and climb to the top of Dire Maui.
Oh, and if you have your ability to see invisible people, you can interact with the guest-giver sitting on the outcropping of the gate as you come into Hellfire Peninsula. It's a pretty cool feature, and a WoW Secret Zone that only a few people can use.
